Todays animal of the day is a banded civet! Civets are in the suborder feliforma, which means they're not so distantly related to cats, and they're in the family viverridae which means they're related to other strange looking animals like the binturong and genet.
I chose the banded civet specifically because it's my favorite but huge shout out to masked palm civet, which looks awesome.
Unfortunately these animals (not nessicarily the banded kind) are exploited and abused since they are involved in the making of kopi luwak (cat poop coffee).
Shitty industry, if you want some cat poop coffee make sure to research ethical sources. I also bed ethical sources are better tasting anyways, as unethically produced kopi luwak relies on caging civets and only feeding them the coffee berries, while ethical sources pick up poop from free roaming civets who get to eat whatever they want.
